Similarities of Life
The two short stories that I read called, “Soldier’s Home” and “The Eighty-Yard Run” were good stories. The main character of “Soldier’s Home”, who’s name was Harold Krebs, was similar to the main character of the story “The Eighty-Yard Run”, who’s name was Christian Darling. The two main characters came from totally different backgrounds; however they had similar personality traits.
Darling and Krebs have a lot of similar traits. They both attended college, however it did not impact there life because Krebs was in military and Darling was sports figure. They also lived during same time era slightly after the World War I era. They also both have a hard time finding there purpose in life. They do not know what to do and they both regret it.

Krebs and Darling do have there differences. Krebs does not have a steady ongoing girl in his life like Darling does. Darling has his girlfriend that he met in college that he marries later on in life. Darling is not honest to her and has many affairs. Also as far as there jobs, they are completely different. Krebs job is military work, and Darling is a Football player.
They both seem to not be able to take care of themselves alone. When Krebs got home from military, would not even look for a job, instead he relied on his mother to take care of him. His mother provided him with place to stay, food and money. Darling after his father-in-law killed himself had no job. He then relied on his wife money to take care of him. He did not go out and get a temporary job. This proves that they both are not confident in themselves.
Another similarity that they both had was that they were at wrong place and wrong time. Darling always wanted to be the star player. He finally got his chance. He made an incredible eighty-yard run down the field avoiding tackles and bull rushing his way though other players. However, the game he did this in, was a scrimmage game that did not count. There were not many people in stand to witness his accomplishment. The same thing happened to Krebs. He spent his life serving his country in the military. After the war, he was forced to stay in Europe in a post war mission. He survived some of the worst wars in World War I. The rest of the soldiers in his regimen got to go home after the war. When they got home, they were praised and everyone was excited to see them home. Years later, Darling got home and nobody really cared anymore. Nobody wanted to hear his war stories because the fad was over. So they both seemed to have been at wrong place at the wrong time.
In the end, they were both did not know what to do with there lives. All they wanted to do was live in there past accomplishments.
