Personal Commitment

A code of ethics speaks primarily to the right and wrong in human relationships. My personal moral systems helps me understand moral principle set fourth by society, the sense of tolerance, fairness, compassion, and sensitivity to other’s pain. My personal commitment is based on my is my sole character of goodness. When looking at issues or medical practice I like to take a common sense approach in making some decision.

One can not have a moral system without having a set of values. Values are prizes, esteem, and desires. Values are a guiding principle or ideas which helps us make personal moral decision base on prizes, esteem, and desires. Values provide us a factual judgment and value judgment based on our own moral system. Without values personal moral system could not comprised of personal judgment of responsibility , entitlement, and respects.

My own ethical decision making process on medical practice are loaded with emotion that is sometimes difficult to look at in a second person manner. On the other hand, medical professional should be the one who detach their emotional opinion from a particular issue facing an individual. My personal code of ethics helps me understand what is right or what is wrong. Within this soul searching comes my personal moral system on decision making practices. My life and experiences have all impacted my decision making process on medical practices and other issues. The pain, suffering, enduring, and acceptance of lifes ever changing curves have all informed me when making a decision regarding my medical practices and other issues. Reflection offers me solidarity towards the future when making a decision. I confidently can embrace an inform decision based on my wisdom which helps me bring about changes. When making a decision regarding anything the unknown hurts more then the known facts. Discovering a decision threw theory/theories helps me bring about the unknown.

My personal moral system is based on different values, life experiences, and obligation to myself, and obligation to my children. My personal moral system is still the same basic foundation for my own code of ethics. Without a moral foundation one can not achieve an ethical understanding of an immoral or moral decision when face with medical or issues.

Digging deep into one soul or unconscious I have found my own morality. Morality speaks to me, which in returns helps me develop principles on how I should treat others and how others ought to treat me, how I should behave in society, and how society should relate to my action or decision. With these nonconsequentialist standards I have found strength which helps me expand on decision making process when face with difficult issues.

When making a decision I tend to gather as much information as possible in order to make the best decision in my own self interest. It is my duty and obligation to do what is be for me, even if it means the outcome is likes than what I originally expected. As long as I know the decision was based in my own self interest I have made the correct decision.

My personal moral system is based on the Golden Rule. When conflict arrive from people or society I tend to take the golden rule approach. I was always told as a child your word will always be your honor. When I make a promise to someone or volunteer to do something it is my duty and obligation to honor that commitment. It is also the principle behind my duty and obligation to that decision I have committed myself to. Virtue Ethics helps unravel my character not towards my feeling or emotion, but toward my character of keeping my word or promise.

Throughout my life I have been faced with medical decision and medical issues. With these uncertainty I have been faced to make moral decision. I often use different theories justify a decision or to help come to a decision on moral or immoral issues facing me. We all have a personal moral system whether we realize it or not. Within the last few years of my life I have attempt to develop a sense of spirituality from my moral journey. The Divine Command Theories guides my duty to god and any immoral decision I am facing. I have begun to strengthen my ethical resolve in many different areas. For example, I try to avoid unnecessary killing of an insect of any other animal because of a sense that the animal is a fellow creation of one divine being or a fear of destroying something that I did not create. My new found spirituality have also influenced my decision on self truth, thought which effects my mind, body, and soul.

The self realization of a clear mind, and a clear spirit have brought me a great paternalist view point (meaning I know what is best for me). With a clearer mind comes a mental state which is completely incompatible with immoral behavior. My own ego is put in perspective with the act of utilitarianism. Instead of true self interest when making a decision I think of the greatest good for my deed or action. I wish not to gain esteem morally to please others; instead of pleasing myself.

When making a decision on my medical care or a medical issue I am facing I tend to take a paternalist approach towards the decision making process. When dealing with a medical doctor I tend to find the Gold Rule approach helpful in making a decision in a doctor care. Doctors are taught not to do no harm. However many doctors tend to express his or her feeling, which can do harm. I strongly believe doctors should not impose the divine command theory unto patients. Morality only can serve those individuals who discover morality. Morality serves one’s true self interest in doing the right thing that benefit oneself in gaining nothing from the discovery. When comforted by medical issues in the past I have found doctors attempting to limit my individual choice from choosing my own care plan. Doctors were imposing their own values upon me, when I was competent to make my own medical decision. For example, my doctor felt I was incompetent to write my own will. I recall telling the doctor I clearly understand the pertinent facts and issues in questions, and understand all reasonable risk. My decision making capacity was more then adequate I demanded the right not only to be free to make my medical choices but also I fully understand the risk and benefits of my decision.

When seeking medical care I always think of health and life. Yet, my personal moral system is also based on trust. Trust, respect, and confidence in the medical provider who I have granted to treat my condition and drawing from his or her knowledge to insure my life. My attitude toward my doctor is one of trust. I believe he or she is dedicated to my welfare and will act to the best of his or medical professional ability. When making a decision such as this I tend to find myself in a slippery slope situation concerning my care. I trust the caregiver however I do not expect for my doctor to have a paternalistic attitude towards my care. For example, I had a doctor advised me I don’t need a consultation I have no doubt about your treatment program. My personal moral system lead me to the ladder of his medical opinion. My own autonomy informs me of my decision regarding his role to which is based in trust, on the other hand I know what is best for me (If it means getting a second opinion; it means getting a second opinion).
