I attended a floor meeting in Wright Hall concerning not only the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, but also the harmful effects of practicing unprotected sexual relations with partners. In fact, she was the one who urged my friends and I to attend, and we did despite our doubts.
Once it began, however, I was pleasantly surprised how fun and actually interesting it turned out to be. It was an exceptional plan to incorporate the idea of a game with the educating of students over important life-impacting subject matter, and how we should use precautions to protect ourselves from the risky effects that go along with being irresponsible. An extensive amount of frightening statistics, illnesses, and tragic circumstances were brought to my attention that I never before would have given much thought to being cautious about before. I mean who would have thought that 5% of all college females, that’s one in FOUR have STD’s, and 75% of them go without being aware of the disease that they will very likely be carrying for the rest of their lives. Much the same, by not practicing protected sex, and knowing the past of your partner, you are putting your own life and the life of your partner in danger. It all boils down to being careful and responsible whether drinking or being involved in sexual relations to ensure the safety of yourself and the others involved. In the end, condoms were available for anyone who wanted them, and as you can imagine, all the guys rushed up to get as many as possible...it was really fun and wasn’t anything like I expected and now I am very glad that I decided to attend.
