I think that overall the experiment was quite successful as I predicted what would happen to the mass of potato chips in different solutions and my experiment must have been fairly accurate as you can see from the graph that my results supported my hypotheses. However, even though the results may have been reliable enough to justify my hypotheses, certain areas of the experiment could have been improved to make it more accurate, therefore making them more reliable.
Firstly, as the experiment was done on a warm day, some of the solutions were likely to have been evaporated meaning that the experiment would not be completely fair. This is because some potato chips would have had less water for diffusion making the results unreliable. To reduce evaporation, cling film should be placed on top of each beaker to stop any water evaporating. However I did not do this with my experiment. Also my experiment was done over a period of two days, which meant that the experiment would already be very slightly unreliable because the temperature and light was different and so this could cause more ore less evaporation and so again there would be a slightly unfair advantage for the potato chips, which were done on the cooler and darker day.
The experiment could be improved by putting cling film over the beakers during the experiment to stop evaporation. Also it could all be done on at the same time so the temperature and light would not affect certain beakers and not the others. This would make the experiment much more reliable.
